Igalia at FOSDEM ’26
For more than a quarter-century, FOSDEM has been one of Europe’s premier free and open source software developer conferences. Entirely run by volunteers and charging nothing for admission, FOSDEM is truly a community event.
The 2026 edition of FOSDEM will take place in its usual home of Brussels, Belgium on the last of January and the first day of February, and Igalia will be there in force to attend and learn from the FOSS community. We’ll also be presenting eight talks:
- “WebRTC support in WebKitGTK and WPEWebKit with GStreamer: Current status and plans” by Philippe Normand (Saturday, 11:10am, Room K.4.601) — a look at the current integration status of GstWebRTC in WebKit, recent achievements, and plans for the coming months.
- “Interop and MathML Core” by Eri Pazos (Saturday, 11:30am, Room H.1309) — an exploration of the process of going from a specification to a feature release. MathML’s unique history makes the task particularly interesting, as it often required deprecating existing features or implementing significant changes.
- “The Web Platform on Linux devices with WebKit: where are we now?” by Mario Sánchez Prada (Saturday, 1:30pm, Room H.1309) — a talk for anyone interested in creating Web-based products on Linux devices, understanding the current state of these ports, and seeing where development is headed next.
- “The Servo project and its impact on the web platform ecosystem” by Manuel Rego (Saturday, 2:00pm, Room H.1309) — a review the recent evolution of the project together with the plans for the future, with a focus on the impact of this work on the whole web platform by finding issues in specifications and improving them, reporting interop bugs, contributing new tests, and more.
- “Free as in Burned Out: Who Really Pays for Open Source?” by Marga Manterola (Sunday, 9:00am, Janson) — a critical look at how Open Source has been funded (or not funded), why many existing models are failing, and what new paths we might explore to ensure the long-term health of the ecosystem.
- “From Bookworm to Trixie: Upgrading the Raspberry Pi graphics stack” by José María Casanova Crespo (Sunday, 10:30am, Room K.4.601) — a review of improvements that have been made in the graphics stack of the Raspberry Pi, focusing on the kernel (v3d) and user space (v3d/v3dv) GPU driver upgrades, as well as a look at what’s coming next.
- “Wastrel: WebAssembly Without the Runtime” by Andy Wingo (Sunday, 11:00am, Room UB4.136) — a look at this new ahead-of-time compiler from WebAssembly to native binaries.
- “Mesa3D: the heart of the linux graphics stack” by Juan A. Suarez (Sunday, 11:00am, K.4.601) — a comprehensive introduction to Mesa3D, one which is aimed at people who have some graphics knowledge but have never written a GPU driver. Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of what happens behind the curtains when they invoke a draw command.
You can look through the full FOSDEM ’26 schedule to learn more about all the talks in this two-day, volunteer-driven, free and open event. If you’re there and you stop by the Linux Foundation Europe booth, you might see some of our Servo team members there, and have a chance to score a sweet Servo sticker!
