"Keeping active despite the heat"

In our home hemisphere, it’s fully summer. Though the days are long and hot, we’re keeping active with a couple of events this month, including one we hosted last year.

  • Display Next Hackfest, July 8–10 — Our own Melissa Wen will deliver a first-day talk on “Async pageflip failures” as well as co-present a talk about “CI, DRM CI, IGT” on the second day.
  • GUADEC, July 24–29 — The annual gathering of the GNOME community will feature seven talks from Igalians:
    • “Breaking the spell: how to fix GObject” by Emmanuele Bassi, exploring a new direction for this core library of the GNOME project and its repercussions
    • “Getting Things Done In GNOME” by Emmanuele Bassi, a look at what kind of technical governance is implemented and followed by other projects, and see a possible implementation of a GNOME-specific technical governance scheme
    • “JavaScript and TypeScript on 2025’s GNOME” by Philip Chimento, covering the latest developments in GNOME’s JavaScript platform
    • “State of Portals” by Georges Stavracas, a look at the past, present, and future of XDG Desktop Portals
    • “GNOME Live Streaming & Outreach: 6 Years Later” by Georges Stavracas, sharing lessons learned and benefits gained by doing livestreamed coding
    • “Streamlining development workflows in GNOME OS with sysext-utils” by Martin Abente Lahaye and Sam Thursfield, a demonstration of how the sysext-utils tool collection can improve your development and testing processes
    • “Workshop: Boost your creativity with Gameeky!” by Martin Abente Lahaye, where you can learn the use of a tool designed to nurture programming, arts, and other STEAM skills

We always enjoy talking with people, so if you ever find yourself at an event we’re at, please take a moment to flag us down and say hi! And if you have any questions regarding any of our talks, are interested in having an Igalian bring a talk to an upcoming event, or you’d just like to learn more about Igalia, please feel free to reach out.
