The Linux Collaboration Summit was held from the 3rd to the 5th of April in San Francisco, California. It is an exclusive, invitation-only event gathering users, developers and companies involved in the Linux community.
Igalia Joined the Linux Foundation about a year ago now to help promote, protect and improve the development of Linux and other related open source projects. The Linux Foundation events act as the perfect meeting point for actors and contributors around the Linux community.
In the summit, our fellow Igalian Juan José Sanchez gave a talk about GNOME entitled: "GNOME - Beyond the Traditional Desktop (or how GNOME can help those building Linux platforms for mobile devices)". (Slides).
Juanjo reviewed the history of GNOME during its establishment as a universal, free, usable and accessible Desktop environment. He also explained how winds of change took GNOME to all sorts of Linux-powered devices and how different mobile platforms embraced it as a relevant part of them.
In addition this, Juanjo described how GNOME is naturally evolving into a new and totally open development platform for mobile devices serving as an effective alternative to Android or iOS. He also gave an idea of what the plans are in the GNOME community to foster this shift.
