In order to launch the V Master on Free Software that will take place in Vigo, Igalia is organising a set of open sessions about different topics related to free software.

As a co-organiser of the Master on Free Software together with Rey Juan Carlos University and with the help of Novacaixagalicia, Igalia is organising a set of open sessions in Vigo, about different topics related to free software.


These open sessions will take place in the building Obra Social de Novacaixagalicia sited at Policarpo Sanz St., 24-26 in Vigo, during three different weekends in September. Days 9 - 10, 16 - 17 and 23 - 24. Friday sessions (9, 16 and 23) will be from 16:00 to 21:00 and Saturday sessions (10, 17) from 9:00 to 14:00, except for Saturday 24 when the talks will start at 10:30.

The set of activities will include workshops, talks by experts in topics such as intellectual property, software patents or migration to open systems and also round tables allowing debate and participation of attendants.

The event aims to stablish as a meeting point for FLOSS professionals and supporters as well as for old and new students of the Master on Free Software. Some of the speakers this year: Javier de la Cueva (lawyer, expert in intellectual property), Karsten Gerloff (FSF Europe, president) or Gabriel Carrión (gvSIG Project, director).

The Master on Free Software will kick off its V occurrence in Vigo in October, once again offering an educational complement to Computer and Telecommunications engineering degrees, which is oriented to open technologies and alternative business models. Skills that are more and more demanded by companies in the IT sector.
