WebKit

WebKit is the leading open source web browser engine.

WebKit is a cross-platform Free Software Web rendering engine; it is the fastest growing engine and already has about 30% of the worldwide Web market. It is used everywhere from major Web browsers (Safari, Chrome) to embedded platforms (iPhone, WebOS, Android, etc.).

It implements already consolidated standards like HTML 4.01, XHTML or CSS, and it is leading the way with the next wave of Web technologies like HTML5 or CSS3, making it a reference platform for users and developers alike.

Igalia has been a major contributor to WebKit for many years, employing part of its staff to the project. Including 4 reviewers and 6 committers while there is even more igalians that know WebKit quite well too.

WebKitGTK+ is one of the many existing ports, bringing WebKit to the GNOME platform. It provides stable GTK+ based APIs for all the WebKit technology, and strives to be deeply integrated into the platform making an extensive use of all its foundation libraries like cairo (graphics), libsoup (networking), gnome-keyring (authentication), GStreamer (multimedia), pango (font support), etc.

Igalia is the leading developer of the WebKitGTK+ port, employing most of its core hackers, providing resources such as hosting and testing bots and organizing the annual WebKitGTK+ hackfest.

Porting devhelp to WebKit2

When MiniBrowser was ported to the new WebKit2 GTK+ API, I said we had plans to create a webkit2 branch for epiphany. And we’ll do it as soon as we have enough API, but epiphany uses most of the WebKit API so this is going to take a bit. In the...
